Ikea TRÅDFRI

Conclusion:

With the Ikea TRÅDFRI you can easily control your lights remotely (indoors) via the APP or a remote control. The system generally responds well. I sometimes had no response. So unfortunately it is not flawless.

With this system you can make your lighting smart in a reasonably cheap way. There is already a lamp available from € 9.99 and the hub to tie everything together costs only € 32.95. What is striking is the user-friendliness and the good explanation. For example, adding a lamp to a remote control is a matter of pressing a button. So everyone must be able to find their way.

What I find a disadvantage of this system is the lack of the possibility to operate a lamp via a normal wall switch. After all, if you remove the power from the lamp, it can no longer be operated via the APP / remote control. Ikea indicates to come with wall switches to solve this problem.

What is clear is that this is not a complete home automation system. There aren't that many sensors yet and making rules is limited to timers. This of course does not have to be a problem. But if you want something more, you will get stuck quickly. The lamps can be linked to various home automation systems such as Homey, Domoticx and the Zipatile so that you still have more options. It must be said that this does not yet work flawlessly.

Still good to report is that the APP currently only works via your own WiFi network. It cannot therefore be controlled from the outside.
