Shelly 1

As already mentioned, the Shelly does not need a controller, but of course you want to be able to operate it. This is possible with the free APP from Shelly. This is available for Android and iOS. I'll show the different parts, and we'll start with the installation.

The logical first step is of course to install the APP. So you go to the Play Store or the APP store and download and install the APP. When you start it up, a kind of indexing starts first. This will take a while so be patient. Then we select the language

The next step is to create an account. It is striking that 3 pages of conditions are shown that you must agree with. Once you have done this you will be taken to the home screen of the APP.

Let's play

Now that we have the APP we can install the Shelly 1. We first connect the whole via the supplied diagram. Obviously, first remove the power from your wall socket, such a shock is so annoying.

You can use the Shelly with a pulse switch as well as a normal two-way switch. So you don't have to replace your switch. More on this later.

When we have put the power on, we restart the APP and click on "add room", we first have to create a room to add a device.

If we have a room we press "add device" to add the Shelly 1. He searches for the shelly 1 via your mobile. He is not yet connected to your own network. To achieve this, he creates a temporary hotspot. This connects your phone again (so it is true that you do not have internet for a while) to subsequently configure it for your own WiFi network. Make sure the Shelly is close to your phone.

I had to repeat some of this process because he wouldn't connect. The strange thing was that it was eventually connected (I saw it in my router) but it didn't come up to my devices. You have to wait 30 seconds according to the manual, so I did a cup of coffee, but unfortunately I didn't see it after that. After a reboot, he emerged.

After this, not entirely problem-free, installation I was able to operate the Shelly 1. I saw that there was a new firmware available so I immediately installed it. You must ensure that the switch always keeps current. After waiting for 5 min I still could not connect, after which I cut the power to restart it. After this it was again possible to operate it.

Service:

The operation of the Shelly is not very complicated. After all, it is an on / off switch so it is a matter of pressing the power button. In the APP there are some different options, we will also discuss these.

Web interface:

Good to mention is that you can also access the Shelly 1 via your browser. You do this by entering the IP address. So if you do not want to use the APP, you can also approach it via this route. Very handy.
