Xiaomi Mi Home

Scene's:

Being able to switch a lamp on and off via your smartphone is of course very useful, but you actually want it all to happen automatically. A good home automation system therefore has the ability to make rules. Fortunately, the Mi Home has this functionality on board.

A number of pre-programmed scenes are supplied as standard. You just have to give up a few things and it will work.

Alarm:

The Xiaomi has a standard alarm panel built in. You can indicate at what time it should automatically turn on and when which sensors should be used as triggers.

Automatic gateway light:

With this function you can have the light of the Gateway switch on automatically when it is dark.

Doorbell:

With this standard rule you can set a doorbell. For example, you could use the button as a trigger.

Alarm clock/alarm clock:

As a last rule you can make an alarm clock to wake up with a quiet sound.

Own scenes:

The Mi Home of course also has a possibility to create your own scenes.

Open the door then the lights on

As the first scene, we will ensure that a lamp comes on when the door is opened. We use the door / window sensor and the LED of the gateway for this.

Scene motion:

As a next scene I want to use the door sensor and motion detector. I also switch the gateway on again. The following is of course just an example, you can imagine that you are turning on multiple lamps.

Creating scenes (rules) is user-friendly in the above way and everyone can find his way in this. It should be mentioned that making more complex rules is difficult due to, for example, the lack of variables and an "OR" function. It is nice that multiple conditions can be used as a trigger.

As an example, I also wanted to create a scene to ensure that when the sun comes up, a lamp is switched on. Unfortunately I was unable to do this because you cannot select a location in Europe.
